Thesis Statement

I feel that the drinking age should be lowered because who really knows when we reach our most mature level in life? What age do you feel that we gain the ability to make the choice to go out with friend and just have a casual drink. And be responsible enough to not take it to the extreme and get totally wasted and get behind the wheel and drive.

Do you think that the drinking age should be lowered to under the age of 21?

Young people today feel that the drinking age should be lowered. Young people feel that they should be allowed to drink when they are in college, in the armed services, or a licensed driver. They feel that if they are sent halfway around the world , given a gun and allowed to kill the enemy that they should be able to sit down and relax and drink a beer. Many soldiers have been and seen things that most of us cannot imagine possible.

Many people feel that at the age of 18 a teenager is not mature enough or responsible enough to drink any alcoholic beverages. They do however allow kids that are 16 to get behind the wheel of a vehicle and put other at risk on the highway every day.

In an April appearance on the FOX NEWS Channel, Mothers against Drunk Driving founder Candy Lightner declared that young soldiers "are not adults," which is "why they're in the military." Since they "will follow the leader" and "don't think for them themselves," she explained, "they are the last ones [to whom} I want to say, "Here's a gun, and here's a beer."

Not everyone agrees with her thought they feel that if someone is mature enough to handle a machine gun ought to be mature enough to handle a alcohol.

Love to Drink

I think if you can go to war you should than have a drink if you like...

I Agree

I think they should just lower it because people are going to do it if it is lowered or if it isn't lowered. Awesome job!!!

YES, only.....

The drinking age should be lowered only for military personelle with a valid military I.D.
The average citizen ages 18-21 are still very imature and personally believe the drinking age should be raised to 24.

Thank You!

Thank You all for your support of the military men and women who defend our country. I agree that some people who go to war are not as mature as they could possibly be thay are still given the task of keeping us living in a free country. Everybody still has moments when we don't quite act our age and that keeps life exciting.

I definitely think that if a person go to war then they should be allowed to have a beer or a shot (whatever their poison), however, I also agree with the fact that most 21 year olds aren't even responsible enough to drink. But if you think about people in Amsterdam or other countries they don't have a drinking age and drinking to them is no big deal and kids actually respect the alcohol and what it can do to them. Maybe after awhile of allowing 18 year olds to drink they will think it is no big deal? Then again MAYBE NO!!!!

ABSOLUTELY

I agree. If someone is aloud to be sent over seas to stand in the line of fire they should be aloud to come home and walk into a bar to have a drink.

NO WAY

Too many people over the age of 21 are too immature to be drinking. Lowering the drinking age would only cause more problems. I bartended for many years and have seen a lot of people drink or be drunk. The younger crowd are the ones who start the problems, raise "hell" when leaving, and are just very immature. Yes, the older crowd can also do the same but are less likely to do so.

As for our troops...this is their decision. Just because they put their lives on the line doesn't mean they are mature enough to handle the effects of alcohol. Yes, joining the military is a very big decision but most of the time people join the military to get "ahead" with things...pay for school, the money, etc. Very few people will actually state it's because they want to defend our country.

The fact still remains...most 21 year olds are too immature to handle alcohol. Lowering the drinking age is just asking for more problems.

Why not just lower it to 15!

Just kidding! I love the blog it very attractive and well organized. Way to go Keysa!!!!!! However I don't think that the drinking age should be lowered if anything I think that it should be raised. I do think thought that someone should tell Candy Lightner that she is way off base. If you can go to war for this country you should be able to have a beer when you come home. So maybe the age for enlistment needs to be changed to 21.
I totally agree. If you are old enough to fight for your country then you should be able to drink a beer. also there are 40 year olds that are as responsible as an 18 year old.

I agree.

I agree with you. If our soldiers are old enough at 18 to fight for our country, then they should be able to drink alcohol. The truth of the matter is that 18 year olds are drinking alcohol anyway. They are managing to get it while underage and always will. The drinking age was 18 many years ago and I think it should be again.

YES YES YES

If our men and women are old enough to bleed and die for our country, then yes they should be allowed to have a drink, after enduring a war scene and dealing with the effects they should be able to have a drink before hand... YES YES!!! Good Job my friend!!!
